Biography ...
Robert's art is a reflection of his varied background and interests. Degrees in Fine Arts (UTA - Printmaking) and Physics (UTD - Geophysics) reveal the breadth of this spectrum as do the career choices he has pursued ... Design Architect, Geophysicist, Programmer and of course Artist. The common denominator in all of these pursuits has been creativity ...
The 3 greatest influences in Robert's work would be Texas artist David Bates, Cezzanine and Rembrandt ... Bates for his appreciation of humanity and boldness, Cezzaine for his use of color and composition and Rembrandt for his mastery of light. Robert sums up his approach .. " Once I have come up with an idea ... and I tend to cycle through periods of interest in Nature, Figurative and Urban themes … I inevitably devote several months to a topic. There are reasons for this approach. It allows me to deeply explore a particular subject ... not only the initial idea but all of the permutations that flow from that idea and it allows me to become more technically adept at presenting these images as I begin to figure out what works and what doesn’t work. That’s why so many of my pieces are series oriented. When I actually start developing a particular piece I always linger foremost on composition ... by composition I’m not referring to the topic of the work instead I am referencing the internal structure of the piece. The relationship between individual elements and how they interact with one another is absolutely critical to a successful work. This interaction is more then just the placement of objects … it also embraces the interplay of color and texture. A successful composition acts as a visual tour guide silently escorting the viewers eyes throughout the work. "
